BEST Robotics Team Earns Third Place

img_0395The North Houston BEST Robotics hub held its competition on October 14 at the Lone Star College Kingwood. Many teams from around Houston brought robots designed to carry out tasks of picking corn, lettuce and tomatoes as well as planting seed and turning the water valve on and off. Our team also participated in the BEST Award which involved community service, fundraising, presenting their plan to judges, and building a set.

2016 Annual Academy Picnic

2016 Annual Academy Picnic was held on Saturday Sept. 17, 2016. 65 Academy families and students attended the picnic and P.A.S.T. general meeting. They had a chance to view research and problems projects, met faculty sponsors, picked up directories and logo merchandise orders, obtained more Exploration Info, explored various volunteer opportunities from P.A.S.T displays, watched the slide show of pictures from FISH camp and enjoyed social time with teachers and other Academy families.

Fish Camp 2016

img_2074Fish Camp 2016 was held the first weekend in August to welcome our new students. Counselors led the students through many activities that reinforced Teamwork, Responsibility, Integrity and Perseverance (T.R.I.P.). At the end of the weekend the freshmen were presented with their T-Shirts and took part in the traditional signing.

They were thrilled to attend the event for the sixth year running, having qualified with our Regional Chairman’s Award at the Alamo Regional.

In the qualification matches, They finished qualifications in the 48th position and were selected by the third seeded alliance, headed by team 67, The HOT Team. The other members of alliance were team 5172 Gators and team 3481 Bronc Botz. After a series of intense quarterfinals matches, the alliance advanced to the semifinals of the Newton division, then were eliminated after two matches against the eventual division champions. Despite this elimination, the team is satisfied with their performance at the 2016 Championship and throughout the 2016 competition season as a whole.

Team Brow‐hemian Rhapsody won first place – Get A Clue – Fine Arts Challenge
The winning team members – Maria Rossi, Mary Robbins, Annie Turney, Victoria Li, JustinStobart, Luis Berardi, and Matthew Liu.

2016 DI Be-Leaf-ers
Team Be‐leaf‐ers won eighth place – In Plain Sight – Scientific Challenge
The Be‐leaf‐ers members – Smita Centala, Yashi Prasad, Alice Cao, Blake Conklin, Will Beaty, Kaustubh Gopal, and Daniel Pallares.

The following 3 teams also won DI state competitions and advance to DI Global:

The Circle: Jack Overbeck, Makenzie Higdon, Caroline Booth, Nick Esposito, Anna Cunningham, Dylan Stobart, and Jheri Richards. Challenge: Technical.

Spoiler Alert: Kristen Bohnet, Kathleen Cahill, Kelly Conlon, Rachel Luomala, Sania Zia, Alex Kremer and Ryan Weeratunga. Challenge: Fine Art.
